Epidemiological Survey of Clonorchis sinensis among ROK Army Soldiers, Korea

Abstract
A study of Clonorchis sinensis acnoag ROK army soldiers, based on the discover~~ of eggs by the formalin-ether sedimentation ~cchnique, revealed the prevalence of this fluke to be 17.5 oer cent from 1, 573 soldiers and `i` ilif leant difference was observed in the sex specific rate of the individual infected.
The prevalence rate for CioyzorcTzis sinensis in the age group from 20 to 24 yea. ~,~~as 16.7 per cent, 25 to 29 years was 15.9 pe cent. In the worm burden for individuals, thy_ ~:veragc number and its standard deviation oi¢¥ e ~_-counts suns 10, 77S -!-10, 050.
For the survey of the other inticstir.e: hclminths, a total of 959 fecal specimens c~~~:.:::.:ined, of these 74.7 per cent were infected ,~-ith one or more species of hclminths. Trickoceplaalus trichizcrus was the most frequent br_,:_ found in 56.6 per cent, while Ascaris lurnb~~icnrGes was next (35.0 per cent) anct hool.worm -,~-as unexpectedly low(5:2 per cent).
The data found in this study ~.vere cn::inared with previous studies, the prevalence of i,,:estinal hclminths except for Clonorchis si~ceusis arc now much less prevalent.
It is found that the prevalence of Clonorchis sinensis among the Republic of Korey army soldiers is still high.
